cleaning terrarium

My cakes are almost done colonizing. hopefully by the end of this week maybe early next week, and I want to set up my terrarium and make sure everything is working properly. It used to be a tank for an iguana and was sitting in a dirty shed. i washed it out with a hose. i was thinking about washing it out again with soap and water, and once thatdried just cleaning the whole tank with alchohol. does that sound like a good idea? and suggestions. thanks in advance.

sounds like that should do the trick. You might wanna try filling the tank with bleach water and let it soak overnight.

I agree with bleaching it. Who knows how many billions of mold spores are/were stuck on that thing. And having a mold infestation on your first grow can be quite discouraging. Just make sure you completely get the smell of the bleach out with a few hosings. Good luck on your grow.

bleach it, wash it with anti-bacterial soap and hot water, whipe it down with alcohol, and spray the shit outta it with lysol

should do the trick :tongue:

ive got the same thing about to be set up..

is the bleach really neccessary with the lysol and alcohol? i will need like 20 gal of bleach to fill it up..

Bleach will kill anything. Lysol (alcohol based i believe) will not. If you wanted to soak it, i'd only use a cup of bleach and fill the rest with water. However it might be hard to dispose of 20 gal of bleach water (and the aquarium will weigh around 160 lbs) So you might wanna try getting a rag and a pail and fiulling the pail with some watered down bleach and use the rag to thouroughly clean all surfaces of the aquarium.
