shroom turned black/nasty 12 hours after harvest. Why? Safe to eat???

I picked this mushroom at about 2:00p.m. I put it on a fan for about an hour until I had to go to work, then I put it in a desiccant chamber. When I got back from work at around 2:30 a.m. I found a blackened shroom?! :confused:

What's the deal??? Has anyone else had this happen to their shrooms?  What did it turn colors like that? Is it safe to eat??

I'm confused here, any help it great!  :mushroom2:

wow dude, thats some major blueing. yes thats fine. actually a good sign.. when u blow a fan over ur babies they bruise easily... get a dehydrator if that bothers u

Agreed. A food dehydrator will keep the original color fairly consistent during the drying process, plus cut the drying time in half. I picked one up at Wal-Mart for $40.00.

have never seen one turn like that from just a fanning. very strange, hmmm....was it just about dry when you put it in the desiccant chamber? no of course it wasn't, it still doesn't look dry in that pic. get them mostly dry with the fan and then put them in the d-chamber to finish them up to cracker dry.
on another note, if you don't have a food dehydrator check with your local starvation army or good will stores. keep checking them until you find one, they work great.

ive had this happen before. its caused by not it drying fast enough in the open air and it oxidizes. mine that did this were still potent when i ate them right away, but i've been told oxidation is not good for potency. so u wanna dry it more thoroughly, faster

I have that happen when I fan dry, but I use descicant and it dries fine

So are you guys pretty sure its just bruising from the fan? I hope it is because I had the same thing happen to another batch today. They were treated exactly the same as the other dark shroom, fanned untill work and then desiccant.

This shroom is almost cracker dry and is really thin and flimsy compared to some normal shrooms.
