hello guys. unfportunately i dont live alone yet. so just cuz i dont want my people to see me growin' shroomz i am pllaning to grow them in my closet. they can stay in the jars till they pin and then they'll be fruited on a big black (not clear, neither the lid) box with perlite/water. but there will be a problem! there will be no light in this dark box! so how are they gonna fruit?!?!!? so i thought to put in there i light bulb (using a batteryto take electicity) which will give light 24/24. Do you believe that i can succeed with this method?? where exactly should i put the light bulb in the box and should this be far away from the shrooms? (will its heat kill them?)
thanks:-)

Why put a light in the fruiting chamber? Just cut a large whole in the lid and cover it with syran wrap or something. Just epoxy the sides so there's no cracks and be careful not to punch holes in it. It'll work fine.

why not just go invitro? let em pin and fruit in the jars.. no light needed, just flip the jars when 90% colonized change temps and you should see fruits I would assume but if im wrong correct me...

Invitro is such an ugly way to grow them but if you have to hide it like you do then i suggest it.
Here is the link to the neglect tek http://www.fanaticus.com/hip-tek.htm.
Good luck! Fd

From what people have been saying lately, i gather you really dont need too much light. In fact 24/7 may be too much. Some people claim that they grow better if you only introduce a little light each day. So really you could probably just give it some light each time you fan out your grow box. Maybe this will be sufficient?

use a flourescent aquarium light that peaks in the blue spectrum (various lights can be found at most petstores). or you could use that light bulb method you were talkin' about.. just make sure it's not too hot (40 watts sounds good). of course, your mushies could do fine on an hour of light a day, so you could even just take 'em out of your closet for just an hour each day (if you want to cut a hole in the lid and cover it with something translucent, which i would recommend anyway to place the light above).

thank you all guys:-) i think i'll try the invitro tek:-) i have a question for you. it is saying to expose to light for 1-2 hours a day. This exposion to light will be done only in the colonization time or only at the fruiting time? or all the time? (from inoculation till harvesting?)
thank you all

I think Hippie suggests allowing the cakes to recieve indirect light the entire time during colonization....it doesnt cause the cakes to colonize any slower and it helps speed up the time from veg to pinning
