God damn it! I was so sterile and I got my first contam. Is there any way to kill the contam and save the cake? what kind of contam is it? Please tell me anything usefull I should know about this. thanks

could be trich.
your jars dont look colonized enough to "attempt" surgery.
but if they are...cut out the nasty shit...use H2o2, then after, singe the gouge with somethin flamed red hot. dont you have more jars?
contams suck, but they get the best of us at times eh..

ah, me and ol' greenie go a long way back. I know him wel, i do, nd let me tell you, not only can you not save the cake, you can't even save the jar. Simply opening it at this point would relese millions of inviable spores all over the place.
Greenie wil continue to out grow the mycelium, until it colonizes the whole jar, just throw it away.
looks like itwas agrowing at the top there, do you use a thick enough verm layer? do you use a pressuer cooker?
also try adding gypsum to the substrait

yeah i have about 34 jars that haven't messed up yet and are more colonized than the one on the pic

I put a verm layer at the top I'm not sure how thick. I just followed the mmgg. I used a pressure cooker. Do i need to throw away the jar or can i just clean it with a blech solution or h202?

if any of the other jars were contamed would I be able to see it already? they have been colonzing for 2 weeks. its going kind of slow cause its only 70 where they are colonizing. sometime this week i'm gonna solve theat problem, but I have to buy some stuff first.

also i opened the jar in my room before readin ur post about releasing millions of unviable spores into the air. after reading that i sprayed my room with lysol. was it real bad to open the jar? if i spray lysol by my colonizing cakes will it kill them?

whats done is done.
isolate the jars away from the good ones....yes you can reuse the jars...soak for 24 hours in bleach+water. dont inhale too much of the jar. contams can kill you.

Looks like Aspergillus, the green mold.
The jar is doomed. Dump the contents.

Aspergillus or Penicillium, impossible to tell without at least a cheap microscope. . .both are common airborne/grain molds.
Dispose of carefully and far away from other jars, and as soon as possible.

Yeah this sucks, I just got my first contamination as well. I haven't looked at my jars for two days and all of a sudden i see a green mold growing about 3 inches across in diameter. FUCK! What a damn waste, But what I did to save my ass from wasting any more spores to reuse the jar, I got the white myclium that wasn't touched by the greenie and put a small (VERY SMALL) chunk in 4 petri dishes filled with brown rice paste to make more mycelium to put in a larger jar filled with substrate. But anyway, I'm trying to recover any loss time and cultivation mass from rebounding with focus on making more mycelium. But anyway, I can't believe that I got that in there, I now know how easy it is for something to enter the substrates. Becareful it can happen to YOU!
