Alright guys, you talked me into giving the h poo a go. I just have a few questions.

1. Is it ok to use BRF cakes (using a cheese grater to break them up) to spawn to? I've already go 10 jars colonized.

2. How much spawn to poo ratio should I use? I've seen info as to 10:1.

3. If i'm using one of the rubbermaid tubs how much poo should I use? 4", 8"??

4. After inoculating the poo I put foil over it and let it sit for some time. When I take the foil off and put 50/50+ casing on the top do I need a FC? Should I put some type of lid over it while i'm waiting for it to fruit if I don't use the FC?

Thanks for the help guys, I'm going to get started on it this Sun, I'm heading out of town in about an hour.

Grated BRF cakes are fine. 4:1 or 5:1 is a good spawn ratio to follow (that's poo to spawn). Go for a 4" depth in your rubbermaid, it will be more effective than 8". You case the poo when it's completely colonized, and you can cover it with the container lid or foil, but that part isn't so important. As long as moisture is retained in the substrate during the spawn run, you'll be fine.

1. Yes you can use BRF cakes I wouldnt use a cheese grater though, put the cakes into zip lock bags and crumble with your hands until there are chunks the size of peas.

2. I use 4 parts poo 1 part spawn, some people use a 5 to 1 ratio

3. Depth depends on how big you want your shrooms, 4 inches is plenty for my trays.

4. I dont use foil I use glad press and seal and I poke holes in it and shove polyfill in holes for air exchange, you can use micro pore tape to cover holes also. I put 3 holes for a good sized tray.

djage420, do you use the press and seal after the poo is colonized or while it's colonizing?
