It's composted cow manure. Not sure how it weighs compared to plain ole poo, but 40 lbs is just one of those typical sized bags. It's gonna take about one bag, maybe a little over to case both my 30 gal tubs. Plus I want some for the off-season, so in fact I need MORE!

I found the bagged manure compacts too much, to easily colonize. Mix it with straw and it will work better and go much further.

Too technical? I dont think so.

I want a 4 inch thick layer in my rubbermaid, which is 2 square feet. That is approx 30 liters of straw and spawn (maybe some poo).

MY largest pan/stove is 10 quarts, so can i pasteurize the straw in 3 times / shifts / batches, throw it all in the alcohol cleaned rubbermaid, let it cool add spawn, cover it, let colonize/incubate.
No casing layer needed right?

Then remove cover, add light, drop temp = fruit.

Would work or?

Point is I wonder how much must I (not?) pack the straw and spawn in the supercasing/rubbermaid?
Must I like stand on it or must it be loose, or inbetween or...?
Cant find it in straw teks.

Rehearsed:
- Can i pasteurize in batches/shifts since my stove isnt large enough for (half) pillow case?
- How packed must the strawsubstrate be....
....

EDIT: read shroomgods strawtej again and:

" With your fist, push down the straw with all your body weight all over the tub. The straw should be at least 4 inches of even depth and pushed down as well as possible. "
This question is answerd.

ALso "Let the straw colonize at room temp (75?F) for 10 to 14 day" so incubator is not really needed!?

And, one tek mentions casing layer, the other one does not. What is better?

Heheheh... I'm just a simple creature of habit

Right

- Can i pasteurize in batches/shifts since my stove isnt large enough for (half) pillow case?

Yes

- How packed must the strawsubstrate be....

I would say light to medium pressure... not much effort required, but try to eliminate any straw from sticking up in the air above the substrate. Flat as possible.

Thanks mate, I think I edited just be4 you answerd.

Some strawteks say apply casing layer some dont mention it. And some say let it colonize at 75F roomtemperature.

I must say I am thankfull to you darkstar , i mean shadowstar... For answering but also for the tip to use straw. I will finish some cakes and make some casings but will grow on straw in a matter of months.
Reading up now and so on..

Thank you.

Incubation at 75 will work but takes much longer.
Casing is an opional personal preference, but it still needs to incubate after casing.

Have fun, and hope I was of some help.

Take Care

75 outside will be in low/mid 80 inside the straw, says shroomgods tek.
I will experiment.

And sure you helped, showed me the "strawway" which I will explore!
