The first time I have ever had ANY faith in George W Bush - I WAS ON DRUGS!
    #4611789 - 09/02/05 08:52 AM (18 years, 6 months ago)

I am not glad GW is president, and I never will be.

But, this is most likely the only time I will EVER have any faith in him to get something done. I'm sure if he had a brain, he could get things done more efficiently... But it seems he is going to use complete brute force in his "compassionatism" to get things done in New Orleans and the damaged areas. Sorry if I miss spelled "compassionatism", but I think GW might have invented that word anyway...

I'm pretty liberal, but not to the far left... I AM NOT a socialist that all these modern day democrats/liberals seem to be trying to be. I don't think it is necessary that I detail my political philosophies... But even with my anti-socialism views, I think this is one of the few exceptions where we need to use extreme measures at the cost of all the American tax payers to restore this city and its people. Ignoring the compassionate side and humanity of the issue, I believe the great financial burden of all this will in the long run benefit the United States and all of its citizens.

God bless New Orleans, its people, and the surrounding areas

(that is metaphorically, I don't believe in the existence of the super natural aka god)

I think the black community should be more upset about what all these dumbass looters are doing, most of them being black.

I think a passage from one of Douglas Adams' works is in order, here:

Quote:

The President in particular is very much a figurehead - he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it.

I wonder how much bigger the black community is than the white community in NO? I also wonder how much more the cameras focus in on the black guy running off with something instead of the white couple and their baby with a bag full of supplies.

What does this have to do with black people?

Put your self in a position where you are in a situation that fucked up... bearly got through as it was (NO is pretty poor to begin with) and this happens. You would probably go pretty crazy and do a bunch of crazy shit. Friends and family are dead.... the place you work at doesn't exist anymore, you have people all around trying to round you up and keep you in some superdome... Your place of living is destroyed... People are understandably going out of their minds and doing all kinds of crazy shit. No shit people are going to loot... They lost everything they have and are in a situation that would make about anyone go crazy and do immoral things (steal, loot, riot..)

I don't think GW has the brain or sense to do it the way it should be done... But I do believe he will put massive resources into the project as a whole. I'm sure in the end people will look back on it and say how much better things could have been done (spending money in the wrong places, doing things in the wrong area)... But a year from now I think his brute force tatics (as in spending money) will get things done.

Now only if he hadn't waisted so much money on WAR and a thousand other places....

but to be completly honest I'm on drugs I'm not used to taking.... so who knows if I'm speaking out of my ass. (xanax, grapefruit juice, and legally obtained codeine)

I think GWB is a tool and this disaster will take him down further. Why? Look into how the bogus Iraq war reduced funding to protect the city from exactly this - you'll be surprised.

Dont place your faith in that asshole...

Really good book. And I think that quote is at least a little more accurate than most would suspect.

"What is in us that turns a deaf ear to the cries of human suffering?"

"Belief is a beautiful armor
But makes for the heaviest sword"
- John Mayer

Making the noise "penicillin" is no substitute for actually taking penicillin.

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it." -Abraham Lincoln

Yah, you are probably right, he'll probably somehow spend a lot of money and still completly fuck it up in the end.

You make a good point. The city (which is actually very resourcfully important to the US) is now in ruins because of ignoring cries for help that the city was at great risk. (I don't know the specific facts you speak of... but guessing)
