Broken Veils - Harvesting Question

hey folks-

my first cake to fruit grew five mushrooms last week, all very close in size and weight. this week, i've got 5 cakes in the terrarium, all with fruits in varying stages of growth. my question is:

is the "broken veil" the best indicator as to maturity? i.e., this time, two small mushrooms have broken their veils at 1"-2" in size. the first batch were 4-5" in length when they popped their veils. should i still harvest the small ones, or do the veils break early sometimes?

there are only a couple small ones, some of them have grown as large as the first batch. i just didn't know if there was a size estimation method rather than the veil thing.

anyway, the cake from which i harvested the first batch has already started its second flush and is pinning much better than it did the first time around. there are probably a dozen pins instead of the initial five.

Each cake and flush will vary in size. There is no method of checking for length. Just pick them before the vail compleetly tears away (just before, or as the veil breaks). You will have very small mushies and very large mushie. Don't worry you will get the hang of it.
