leaving cakes unattended

my friend has some cakes going right now and is going out of town for a few days... some a pinning and some are not... what do yall recommend my buddy should do....air exchange, light, etc.... i think he has a few casing too, anyways..... thanks... STRANG..........

If he is going away for more than four or five days, he could put them in total darkness. This would prevent fruit formation but it would take several days of lighting to get things started again. Or he could put them in a cool area with ambient light and let them fruit slowly while he is gone.

I think you better babysit them while your friend is gone. Don't worry about the light, its the air exchange and humidity that are crucial, especially if they have already started pinning.

pop them in the fridge, or otherwise drop the temp, that'll put everything on hold until you return.

captain what would you do? i am leaving too.. would the fridge do the trick? he will be leaving friday afternoon and will be returning sunday night.. thats not too bad is it? well, anyone with first-hand experience please reply...thanks all....

You can stick them in the fridge and they will go dormant but the ones that are already pinning, well, when you gotta grow, you gotta grow! And if you do put some in the fridge, they will get dried out real fast. So use a tupperware or some kind of container.

what about just putting them in the fridge with the terrarium they are already in. will this suffice? should i add moisture prior to putting in the fridge or when he gets back?.. thanks max..

I have been leaving my cake unattented for a couple days at a time with only using a fish tank pump bubbling in a glass jar in the corner of the terrarium
