More Morning Glory Pics

My plants have died now and I've started the seed harvest. So these pictures are in honour of what once was.








What a beautiful plant. And to think they contain a cousin of the ol' d-lysergic in them...

Yeap, I love them too! I could harvest this year about 100 seed, enough to start next year again...
I also got seed from some wild specimens in Mexico, that have much smaller flowers, but still beatiful. I'll have to wait until the winter here in Germany is through...

is it the ergot fungus growing on the seed that produces the LSA or is it in the seeds themselves. Any particular morning glory variety? Any ideas?

It's the plat itself that produces LSA and stores it in the seed. It is probably a method to protect the seed from animals eating them.

When Hofmann found these compounds in the MG's it was really astonishing, because lysergic compounds where only known from fungii. As far as I know the Convolvuceae (Family to which the MG belong) are the only plants that contain these compounds.

Ergot grows only on grasses, like Rye or even on Phalaris spec.

I'm not sure about your question, but the seed that contain the highest concentration of LSA are the ones from the Hawaiian Baby Woodrose (10 seed are anough to trip correctly), while for the Ipomea violacea (above one) between 100 and 200 seed are a mild trip.
