fungus gnats

my friend saw a few gnats flying around in the FC on a pinning case
he thinks he offed most of them.....should he be worried or take any precautions????

Yes. Usually when a gnat is in the substrate area, one has already laid eggs in the casing layer. Hopefully not in your case, but the odds are against you.

I had em infest my jars not too long ago, I had them flying allllll over the house. Somehow they managed to not find the fruiting chamber, so in the end I only lost a couple jars.

The one good thing is that once you clean up their food source, they will only survive a few days before they die out.

hi...bro

let me tell you a little story about gnats that happened to me 2 summers ago...

they got into my grow room and infested every casing I had growing at the time.

I had thousands of those bastards flying around...and in my stuff.

I let everything fruit...then dumped every casing that I had.

Then nuked the whole grow room with a bug bomb!~

Then scrubed down everthing and started over.

It really sucked!~

well he has not seen any since they been offed but he will keep a close eye!!!

also the one casing was in a rubbermaid conatiner with polyfill holes...do u think thats how they can get in and out?

they probably crawled in between the lid and the container.

fungas gnat are horrible you must totally exterminate them now or they will keep mating and laying eggs faster than you could beleive

i think this is something i might need to watch out for, that i didnt think about before. i'll be useing poo too and i have 2 kids that run in in out with flies coming in. looks like i might need to start cracking the whip and the fly swatter..lol

Normally, they breed in the soil of your houseplants. Be sure not to bring plants from the outdoors into the house as the weather cools off. That's a major source of infestion. Go around and check all your houseplants by disturbing the pots to see which one the gnats fly out of. There is a biological, non toxic control for them you can get from the link below. They also will come home from the grocery store in fruits, vegetables, and especially onions.
