Why do so many people take pills these days?

it's like every other person i talk to, they have a script for either prozac, rittlin, xanax or whatever. pill for 'anxieties'...pills for bad social skills, pills for false securities, this and that the list goes on.

how did this happen? and why?

I got a script for Carbatrol. It's my epilepsy medicine, and I like this a lot better than my last one. My last one I used to fall asleep in random places and wake up not knowing where I am. Nontheless, very sedative drug, I only take it before bed...otherwise I just pass out all day long.

Wish I could not take pills...but this isnt a thing that can be overcome with a lifestyle or exercise.

Coming from a country in the middle of europe and middle east, I was aware of the issue as the anxiety pills had also started to enter the society there. But thats nothing compared to what I have come across here. I'm amazed at the pace these things are spreading around especially western societies and more specifically N. America, without people much questioning their side effects  :shake:

exactly what i mean, banjankri! it's crazy...

and fospher, epilepsy medication is totally different. i didn't mean pills like that, but i'm glad they make a better med for you now.

Because they're fun? Why wouldn't you take a script for Xanax?

Real medicinal usages aside.

And Prozac will make you happy if you're sad, no work or pesky overcoming needed. Ritalin will make you more attentive and (seemingly) intelligent because you're less distracted. It's also not a bad upper.

Why do people do drugs at all? It's either for medicinal usages or recreational ones, and most of these people don't need it for medicinal purposes seeing as humanity has gone so long handling its anxiety and distractedness without pills.

It's not about profit for the people buying them; it's about feeling good.

Simple human nature. The pills are available, and they make you feel good in a variety of ways. Why not?

those aren't the specific drugs i mean. only the ones i could think of as 'pills'. some of these drugs don't have effects considered recreational..

it's pretty bad when gradeschool kids have to take their meds because basically, the little shit has no discipline or when somebody has to take a pill to be more happy or social.

What drugs are you talking about that people don't have to take yet don't have recreational effects? I'm sure there are a few, but if you've ever done antidepressants like Zoloft, anxiety drugs like Xanax, or erectile disorder drugs like Viagra, you'll know there's recreational usages in all of these otherwise unnecessary drugs.

These drugs do have legitimate medicinal purposes for serious sufferers, but for your average person they're just entertaining.

the pharmaceutical industry has waaaay to much power :thumbdown:

It would be better to give those people some anti-anxiety or social skills training and let them exercise on a regular basis. That would be curing. (ofcoarse for many this isn't an option and they really need the pills)

Some people actually have serious problems that can't be cured and to make their lives somewhat more bearable they need to take meds. For absolute survival, no they probably don't need them, but that's not the point here.

I remember when I broke both my jawbones, I was on like a liter of liquid hydrocodeine every week, for um, 3 months. that shit was so hard to quit doing. but I felt better after I quit.

Most people do believe they need them, though. That's the largest misconception Americans have. Some of US may use Xanax recreationally, but most Americans who take Xanax believe they need it to cure what "ails" them.

i buy scripts of vicodin for profit.
but i also take some myself when the money i paid for it is immediately paid back..... :grin:

people eat painkillers like its there fucking job.  I dont get it, but oh well all i see it as is cash!
