Help with terrarium + PICTURE

I'm a very poor man and 'am trying to save as much money as I can with my terrarium setup.
Here's what I plan to do:
I don't have any perlite so I plan to use a hot lightbulb to warm up water and supply humidity to my terrarium. The lightbulb gets too hot and warms up the terrarium a little bit too much so I plan to attach it from the outside. What do you guys think? Sounds good?

no. Just buy a bag of perlite ($3) and that will take care of humidity. Do not go sticking light bulbs in water. Heat and that much light are not nessesary when fruiting. temps around 70 F are just fine, and for light, you just need a window in the top.

I don't think sticking a lightbulb is too dangerous. I got the idea from: http://www.shroomery.org/findorgrowthem.php?View=docs&doc=122
Here is what I have done so far:

I agree with Eightball. Go to walmart or home depot and buy a $3 bag of perlite. Please don't take offense, but if you can't afford to spend 3 bucks, maybe you should address that issue first. Good luck and please don't electricute yourself.
peace,

Is that a regular incadecent light bulb that you plan on sumerging into a bowl of water? If so that can be a very serious eletrical hazard. If nothing else the bulb might break.

Nope it's one of those elongated chandelier bulbs. 30 Watts
All contacts are safely kept away from the water (the lid of the can is protecting them).
The only bad thing I can think of happening is the light blowing up.. but it hasn't after 4 hours of testing and it works perfectly!
Well above 95% humidity and nicely warm

oh boy. When the water condences inside or on that fixture, it will bridge the with AC lines and there will be a pop followed by that circuit kicking off. But if you're kinda unlucky, you'll be in the process of moving it around and it'll shock the shit outa you and you'll move to perlite and sticking it in the window.

lol I guess I am pretty crazy.
But since I can't afford anything (yes not even 3 dollars... and I can't address that issue within this week and my jars are ready!!!) can I just fill up a container full of soil or vermiculite and have enough humidity?

you may try moving the lightbulb outside but next to your container.. may be safer. also i notice you have an opaque lid and clear sides.. that sucks. should be other way around if possible.. and dude come on 3 dollars? G-H-E-T-T-O!! well when you do get more $ you can get a 50 watt fishtank heater for 9 bucks and save yourself the worry PLUS it will keep it at a contant temp rather than let it fluctuate

Get some insulation tape and tap those contacts up well. If you're going to do this (electrically speaking this is incredibly dangerous) then take as much precaution as you can, that means that the contacts have be fully insulated from the outside.
Wear rubber gloves when you attend to your cakes and light, that will decrease the hazard to yourself.
And lastly, if $3 can be acquired at a later date (say next week) buy the perlite and do away with light - as most have said here - its bad news.
AC power won't hurt you, it'll probably kill you if it gets you strong enough and no mushroom trip is worth that (perhaps if it was DMT maybe :).
Good luck

W00T! I found my piggybank with 5 bux of all dimes. Yay! Gonna go make the trip to home depot tomorrow.
I don't have money because my cars engine blew up.. I lost my job 2 weeks ago and am eating cup o' noodles and oatmeal for food.
Thanks for all the help.
Hell.. anyways... isn't the humidity for casing supposed to be about 80%?

shit that sucks about your car..
the humidity for the casing should be probably a little higher.. perlite will probably give you a little more humidity than you want still

Yeah... I asked my brother to change the oil of my car... he said he did but turns out he didn't... too bad I found out after I was stuck in the freeway.
I have a tendency to make thigns too complicated. lol
I'm going to put two square pyrex casings in my terrarium... the terrarium will be upside down so the see through part is ontop.
If the humidity is not high enough I will add a little container of wet vermiculite on the side.
That's it! Yay I can enjoy a 5 dollar meal at McDonalds with my perlite money. heehee i'm starving

I just want to tell you one thing... I think your terranium is too short.
Chances are tho, with your setup, your crops will be very small and you wont necessarily need the height, but it's something you should think about.
My first terranium is a 10 gallon aquarium with a custom made plexiglass angled lid. This allows plenty of room for the mushies to grow.
Also, the light bulb idea is a really bad idea. I don't think it's worth it and it sounds like a really stupid idea. If you wanna use a cheap heating source, use a comforter.
My aquarium is wrapped in a blanket with a heating blanket on one of the sides. This keeps the heat inside the tank at a great 82 degrees with ~97% humidity.

Thanks.
The lightbulb idea has been thrown out of the window. I found an underwater lightbulb and socket in my garage so I could have used that. But since it's winter here my room will be kept at a nice 80F for comfort =)
If the terrarium is too short I had the plan of tranfering it to a larger container (already have it) but for the meantime I will leave it there so the humidity can be kept up.
But I have about 9inches for growth, plenty enough for the moment.
Thx again to anyone everything is under control.
