am i being impatient?

ok guys and gals, i cased my hpoo about 5 days ago and still nothing is coming through the top of the casing layer... the casing was done with 50/50+ tek and i know the moisture content is fine. so should i try something else or just keep on waiting?

Keep waiting. 5 days with no signs is still normal.

But it would help if you could post your

TEMP
HUMIDITY
FAE (Fresh Air Exchanges) frequency

etc.


EDIT: Oh, sorry, I am not sure if you actually moved it to the fruiting chamber or not. Is it still in the incubator?

how thick is the casing layer?
how do you "know" its not too wet?
was your sub fully colonized before casing?
What exactly to you mix into your casing layer?
you cant really change that casing now, you just have to hope it works... scraping is not ever really beneficial so id stay away from it.

the temp is in the mid 80s.
and i have not moved it into a fruiting chamber just yet... still incubating. should i move it in before there are signs of growth on the top layer? there is definately mycelium underneath, but none poking thru yet. thanks everyone

1. 1 1/4 inch thick for about 5 inches of substrate
2. i squeezed all of the excess water out before laying casing down
3. i am positive all the sub was fully colonized
4. the casing consists of 50%peat 50%verm and a teaspoon of oyster shell powder

IMO the (1/4 of substrate depth thing) is BS. I never go over 3/4" no matter what depth you have. Use a short term buffer next time as well.

well i asked around and i was told to go for a thicker casing due to the sub depth. what you mean by a short term buffer? thanks main

oyster shell powder contains calcium carbonate which adjusts pH in the long term run of things. but it will not adjust ph likely until your second flush.. look into using hydrated lime as a short-term buffer, or "fast acting buffer."
