Is it okay to eat after the cap turns black?

Is it okay to eat an abort if you pick it like a day after the cap has started to turn black and then pick the cap off and throw that part away? It seems like as long as you throw away a little buffer zone, the rest of the stem should be okay to consume. I mean, the stem looks fine. It's not like it has a black center or anything.

I shouldn't say this.....but on a few times, i picked some aborts that were of good size (1-1 1/4" high), and the caps were black......I eat them. I don't think it's a good idea though...you nevr know what might happen.....As for me.....I'm just an addict :)

That's what I figured. It's not a good idea, but the chances that something bad will happen are slim, I imagine. Anyway, we're not talking about something totally rotten here. Just an abort that has a little blackness in the cap (not even totally black yet) and none in the stem at all. I can't imagine the stems would be able to cause any serious damage. If anyone has any personal experiences eating stems from black capped mushrooms that were bad, I would love to hear them.
