daturas are lovliest at night. * 1
    #4479040 - 08/01/05 12:43 AM (11 years, 6 months ago)

their leaves streatch out upward at night to reach for carbon dioxide, in the day they sora hang ouwards to catch the sun.
a hot sunny day followed by a cool night results in noticeable growth. even the stems strech, it looks like a different plant the next day.

hers some shots from tonight.
datura metel

datura stramonium

the above plant is more than 2 ft accross, those are bricks under it. its a seedling but those leaves are the size of my face.

these are big still not flowering, they had primary flowers but they fell off, more are comming, its not unusual to see daturas of any species drop their flower buds half the time.
i thought these were big 2 days ago when the looked like this.

heres another shot of the metel patch

its funny my friend told me today "wow, youre gonna have tons of datura...... and you can't do shit with any of it"

its a crime that datura is legal and pot isnt.

i mix the local red sandy clay with equal parts potting soil, then add one half part second year stable shaving compost.
mix, and water dayly for 2 months then start sprinkning 20-20-20 plant food wisply on the soil evry other week and watering in. (youre supposed to mix it with water first in exact ratios, but i find that plants related to weeds dont mind a little over feeding)
a little lime on the surface once and a while cant hurt either especially if you live near the woods, in a boggy area, or in an area with a very low PH.
tho, daturas dont seem to mind slightly acidic soil.
