coco coir question

Hey guys I have a question about coco coir... i finally found verm.. now i need coco coir.. I have called about 10 pet stores looking for it but no luck yet... Does anyone know if coco coir is just added to anybedding in pet stores or does it have to be specifically coco coir? i saw a picture of coco coir and next to the picture a guy had a bag with the name forest bedding on it... also, if anyone knows any local stores they get coco coir at please list them thanks.

If you call a pet store and ask for coco coir, they probably won't know what you're talking about and just say they don't have it. I found it at petsmart in the reptile section. It looks like this: http://www.petsmart.com/media/ps/images/products/detail/large/i/in50/in500677large_d1cd.jpg

As stated above, its usually in the reptile section. Its used as reptile bedding. You may want to call and ask if they carry reptile bedding, and if so what it consists of...

petco carries it, but, they also carry a bag of something which can be equated to jiffy mix. Its a verm/coir mixture. You should be able to find it right next to the coir. BTW the coir i bought was called bed a beast.

you might want to check out that premixed coir with verm i mentioned. Coir is a pain in the ass to deal with (as i just found out today).

Garden centres sell it.

When I first tried to find it, I thought all coco coir came in compressed blocks as in the tek on this site, but it doesn't. It just looks like regular compost, only more brown in colour and you can see the odd fibre in there. Coco coir is just the fibres from coconut shells that has been ground into a type of compost.

So check out your garden centre.

The brand I use is called coir compost.

Oh, by the way, it works great with verm for casings.....see the 60/40 coir verm tek!!

The chunky coir also works great for woodlovers. No need to hunt for Alder.

Hydro shops have it and the coir they have is way better then the stuff in pet stores. All salts are removed and the stuff is cleaned for use in growing not for lizards to dig in.



(but I do admit I love Eco Earth coir)

the megalomart(read wal mart -sorry rr) around here sells coco coir in tight bricks along with lows, before you buy from a pet store I suggest you look at a department store first
