I buy mine as lizard bedding, I don't think the kind I buy says that it is coco coir but the first shit I bought did, so I learned what it was. It comes in bricks about 2" thick by about 10-14 inches long. Works well and has produced my best fruits.

I have always purchased my Coco Coir (Bed-a-Beast) from Petsmart. They also have a brand called (Hagen) crushed oyster shells. I have used both with great results and highly I reccommend both.

Hope this helps.

Peace!

I use coir, verm, oyster shells, and a little lime for my casings.
I have been getting great results with the Puerto Rican strain using this formula.
All other attempts using plain coir and 50/50+ have produced monster aborts and small fruits.

When I mix up casing substrates I never really use exact measurements.
I pretty much use a little less than a 1/2 cup of verm. to every cup of coir.
I hand sprinkle the oyster shells over the verm and coir mixture. If I'm doing 3 medium sized casings I usually use about 1/2 cup of oyster shells.
I mix the verm, coir, and oyster shells together really well and then evenly sprinkle a light layer of hydrated lime over the casing and mix well again.

I really never measure. I just filled up a 44oz. 7 Eleven cup with hot water and I pour it in a big bowl with chipped off pieces of coir. You gotta wait a few minutes for the coir to expand and soak up the water.
I measure moisture content by grabbing a handfull of casing and squeezing. A few drops dripping from your hand is what your aiming for. I dont squeeze as hard as I can either. Just enough to make sure its not over saturated.
I grab handfulls little by little and fill up the reynolds oven bag I use to Pressure Cook in.
Using this method I never had casing substrate to wet or dry.

Hope this helps!

Where is the oyster shell? I looked in reptiles-found the coir brick-but no luck on the oyster shells. I also looked in the bird section but couldn't find it.
Too bad they don't sell straw in the horse section!

The oyster shells should be in the bird section. I found it on the very bottom shelf.
Its a green box that has a blue parakeet on it. In yellow letters it says the brand name hagen.
