Hello All. Currently I am using dung/compost spawned with ryeberries in a rubbermaid, manual fanning/misting. To anyone using this method the questions I have are this:
1) I am using store bought EarthGrow Steer Manure Blend which is a mixture of steer manure and compost. I am getting good results, but I was wondering if there is a richer mixture that i can buy from a store.

2) Currently I am using manual fanning, and I would like to have a static system like the DB kits. So I am wondering about the holes that I need to put in the bucket. Anyone who uses this method: what size/number/placement of holes should I use on a 18 Gallon Rubbermaid Roughneck.


Any Help would be Great

someone told me 1 hole a bit smaller than a playing card covered with a filterpatch should do the trick. Place towards the bottom of the container, but a little above the surface so it vents out the CO2

Yeah - I heard that using a good sized hole with a filter works good for your setup too...

I have also seen a bin with a bunch of little holes punched around the perimeter of the lid - just like the DB kit.... It doesn't matter how many holes there are - just keep an eye on the moisture... if water is an the sides - then you;re fine - if there is no water ad it's looking dry - tape up a few of the holes...

I know with good certainity that either of these two tricks work!

And try to go to a stable or out in the country...
get some fresh horse manure[supposed to be the best..]
