What job should I look for?
    #4426907 -

I'll be (hopefully) graduating college this coming fall semester with a B.A. in sociology(not a very useful degree), and I'm still not sure what line of work I want to go into when I'm done. It's mostly because I don't care all that much. I'm not looking to make a whole lot of money. Just something that will pay the bills, not be too stressful, and give me a little extra spending money on the side. I'm fortunate in that my parents have a trust fund set up for me that will allow me to make about a $40k down payment on a condominium, so housing will not be as much of a burden as it might otherwise be. I'm more concerned about leisure than luxury. I don't need a lot of nice things, as long as I've got food on the table and weed in my bong. I'm thinking some sort of entry-level office job, where they require a college degree, but don't care what that degree is in. I'm ok with boring work, just not tedious work. And though I can deal with customers, I prefer not to. Any suggestions on what kind of position I should be looking for?

Paradigm, why dont you go into mental health? Or be an FBI agent? How much more schooling would it take for you to be part of that?

A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

A BA in sociology is excellent preparation for future graduate work in sociology in order to become a professor, researcher, or applied sociologist.

The undergraduate degree provides a strong liberal arts preparation for entry level positions throughout the business, social service, and government worlds. Employers look for people with the skills that an undergraduate education in sociology provides.

Since its subject matter is intrinsically fascinating, sociology offers valuable preparation for careers in journalism, politics, public relations, business, or public administration--fields that involve investigative skills and working with diverse groups.

Many students choose sociology because they see it as a broad liberal arts base for professions such as law, education, medicine, social work, and counseling. Sociology provides a rich fund of knowledge that directly pertains to each of these fields.

Why not any of those options? Get that resume a kickin, do some appreticing, some internships, whatever, and gitrdone.

Do another degree in maybe say political science if you havent. You seem to be interested in those topics. Then either stay in the academia or find a job, by the time which you will have more work opportunities.

I'm really not interested in doing more school at this time. Maybe in a couple years. I really just want to start earning a living and living on my own for a while.

me I have a BA in Psych, which is almost the same as sociology. I'm looking for jobs in social services, counseling, or clerical/entry level office job.

the key is to make yourself a good resume (don't be afraid to embellish a tad) and post up on those jobfinder sites like monster.com. Buy a cheap suit and tie, and practice bulllshitting your 'I'm a young go-getter' attitude for interviews... Also, If you have any friends that have good jobs, ask them to hook you up... Most people have jobs only because they know somebody. It may take a few months, but you'll find something...

remember, benefits (health and dental) = k3y

do some research goob...

sociology is very broad, and yes, broad enough to include the FBI.

whatever you do START NOW WITH AN INTERNSHIP

so many kids don't think about work until after
college.

most schools offer credit for internships, so they
hire you knowing your worthless, you get credit
towards school AND you have work experience
when you get out (and possibly a job right away)

good luck.

no shit. I'm so glad I had an internship so at least I can put some office/social work experience down on my resume. Not to mention the reference.

I have a B.S. in psychology and am currently working as a research assistant at a research hospital in Massachusetts. I worked for 4 years prior to that (mainly while attending university) in both psychiatric inpatient and resedential programs. I really enjoy doing research and if you could find a position as a clinical research assistant or something of that ilk, you'd likely have a good way to go!

Good luck and hit me up with an e-mail if you'd like

peace

Dan
