all I've heard of theirs is "Credence" but I really liked it and would love to hear more (though I know not all their stuff is like that)

Every album of theirs is good, I've listened to them all too much however and I know every song off by heart so I don't listen to them as much now.

They got me into metal when I was in highschool. I tend to listen to different stuff now though. I was a bit disapointed with them at a concert a few weeks ago, but it was enjoyable none the less.
A fan of more brutal stuff now, I think. But they were seminal to my metalness.

Yeah, they are great. They were the band that really got me into metal actually.

One of only two "metal" bands I listen to these days. Them and Tool. I can't stand anything else metal, really. I can't wait to hear their new album. Hopefully soon.
I was actually listening to To Bid You Farewell (from the Morningrise album) when I clicked on this thread. Pretty cool.

Im not sure if i would consider Tool a metal band in the first place though
I seen Opeth last wednesday at the sounds of the underground tour in Orlando and they put on a real good show. Didnt have the energy some of the other bands had but it was still interesting. They play there soft stuff really well, when they elevate it into a darker/heavy sound its real impressing. Thats what i dig the most. Would definitly go and seen them again sometime

I love Opeth. In my top 3 favorite metal bands of all time..right next to Death. Seen them live four times so far, had the pleasure of meeting mikael akerfeldt and peter lindgren at one of their shows.. not only are they amazing musicians but they are very laid back, down to earth.. real people. Some of my most memorable experiences had Opeth playing in the background.. so whenever I hear certain songs I get chills or flashbacks to those memories. They have a very diverse range of playing.. for those who find some of their songs to be too "dark", I recommend Morningrise, and Damnation Orchid, My Arms Your Hearse, Blackwater Park, Still Life, Deliverance.. Opeth is fucking awesome.
They don't like when people call them gods though.. too humble or something

\m/ Just seen them this past wednesday. Was awesome, but was very dissapointed when lopez wasnt behind the drumset. The fill in screwed up a couple times. I was right in front, center stage. I drove three hours just to see them out of like 15 bands. Had fun though. They played a new song aswell, off their upcoming cd, The Ghost Reveries. wOOt!!

I really used to (and probably still do) like the song Harvest I checked out some of their other songs and didn't really get into them. Can anybody suggest a couple from the one I like?

I'd say if you like Harvest, you might also like "The Drapery Falls" which is off the same album, "Blackwater Park". Although they are metal, they have one album called "Damnation" which is not metal at all, but is still a fantastic album. Any song on their is worth checking out.
Other songs you might like: Face of Melinda Benighted Credence Epilogue- A really chill instrumental Patterns in the Ivy- Another really cool instrumental
I still urge you to give their heavy stuff a chance as well. Check out "Still Life" or "Damnation if you do.....Actually, you could check out any of them because they are all great.

Thanks Harbinger, 5 shrooms to you.
I do enjoy heavier music, it's just that I never really got into them. I probably just have to get used to the singer. It seems to me like with growly vocals you have to get used to the individual singer before you can understand the lyrics properly. It's like you need a cookie monster -> english translator.

That's what I did. I only liked their mellow stuff at first, I just didn't care for the vocals at all. I'm not really even sure how it happened, but I just got used to them, and in Opeth's case, really enjoyed them. After that, I started listening to metal.
It just seems to me that in alot of people's case the reason they don't like metal is the vocals. This is understandable of course, but once you get past them, you discover what you've been missing.
The thing that's great about Opeth is that Mike Akerfeldt (the singer) has a death metal voice, but is still (for the most part) understandable. Alot of metal bands have vocalist that are very hard to understand and in some cases fucking impossible. This doesn't bother me though as vocals are usually the last part of a song I pay attention to (definitely not ignored though) but I just think Akerfeldt has one of the best death metal voices in the genre and not to mention a great clean voice.
Thanks for the shrooms BTW

Mikaels voice compliments the music beautifully, such power and beauty - his voice gives me chills.
I'm listening to the new track 'Ghost of Perdition' it's a fucking masterpiece, i'm qutie excited about the new album now.
Most Opeth fans differ from me in taste because my favourite album is My Arms, Your Hearse and then the 2 before it.
