whoa, I was just lookin at those in my audobon mushroom book the other day, and I was thinking I'd like to find some cuz they look cool. I could look up the name, but I don't feel like it. it doesn't really matter cuz they're not psilos and I don't think you want to eat them

uh..."geoaster", maybe thats it, not too sure, but not "active...it's called an earthstar, and there are several different species.....some are actually edible when very small.
they are awesome fungus though....very cool....peace

Ya, those Earthstars are likely in the Geastrum family. They are modified puffballs and too tough to eat.

The only one I ever found was growing on a 100 yr old rotten plank in a northern BC ghost town.

They are cool!
