San Pedro Extraction

I know there are a various methods are extracting mescaline from San Pedro based upon the time the process takes and how much of the final product is produced. Most forms of the extraction process seem to be variations of each other and share much of the same supplies, chemicals, and methods needed for extraction. Does anyone know off hand or of a site with a list of supplies/chemicals needed for a standard extraction?
Another question I have is about acquiring San Pedro itself. I don't really want to deal with orderign a growing seeds, so how common is it for "normal botanical shops" to sell San Pedro or even just cacti in general? I have had no luck at even finding botanical shops that sell cacti in my local area.

yeah, your gonna want to go to erowid.com, and then your going to quit trying to find it at store, because if, and rarely they sell it, and when they do, they sell it under a different name, it will never say San Pedro, you would have to identify it yourself, pictures can be found on erowid.com, also you could try buying the product online.

I see it at Home Depot and Walmart all the time. Usually under the name San Pedro or T. Pachanoi. It's usually really expensive though.
Not sure what stores you go to.
Luckily, people have giant Pedros growing in their yards everywhere around here. Borrowing a foot or two every now and then doesn't even make a noticeable difference.

DO NOT BUY SAN PEDRO FROM HOME DEPOT.
Order the dried flesh or a cutting online from somewhere you trust; a place that is claiming organicly grown or looks like they are selling for consumption. If you buy a cacti from a store it could be full of pesticides or have very low mescaline content.

Tell me if they have it. It would be excellent if all I have to do to get it is buy it from target.

"Wow, if you can legally buy San Pedro seeds or plants in the US, why is mescal so rare?? "
Mescal is actually something different, but actually mescaline is rare because not alot of people can extract it from the san pedro. And no drug dealer would probably sell all these dried cactus cuttings or a big cup of goo.

It's interesting, my friends and I had an argument based on this. I thought it was Erowid.org, one other thought Erowid.com, and still another Erowid.net. Although the main site is Erowid.org, a .com or a .net will get you there too!

I thought that I read that the leaves or stalks, whatever, from the San Pedro (T. Peruvianus)could be boiled and then dried and ground into mescaline powder for consumption. Is this correct? I guess it wouldn't be an extract per se but just eating it should do the trick no?

That is correct. Traditionally the Huichol indians would make a tea from the peruvianus and pachanoi stalks. You literally have to bol them for hours but it still is easier than mescaline extraction IMO.

Well I just ordered myself 3 - 12" San Pedro Stalks. This is too good to be true. There is a failproof method floating around in the useful information section that details a method perfectly. I'll post my results whenever I give it a try.

The chemicals you need should be available at your local hardware store. Making an extract of the cactus is fairly easy, but few people take the trouble to do the A/B extraction necessary for a pure crystalline product. And even then, it isn't pure mescaline, but rather a full spectrum of the alkaloids in the cactus from which it was extracted. Further refinement can be done to isolate just the mescline from this, but it takes even more effort. For the lazy, a simple acetone extraction will probably produce a fairly concentrated extract, but it won't be anything pretty to look at and might be a little harsher on the body than a more refined extraction. This extract could then be dissolved into a glass of orange juice or water or be placed in a gelcap and eaten.

I've heard acetone won't dissolve mescaline, and can be used to clean the crystals, if this is true, how can it be used in a simple extraction?

I believe Merck Index says that mescaline freebase (which occurs in the cactus) is soluble in acetone. When you have a finished product from a good mescaline extraction, you will have it in a salt form (probably suflate, hydrochloride, or citrate) which is not soluble in acetone. This is mostly from memory, so if anyone has access to a Merck Index to provide a definitive answer, it would be most welcome.
