San Pedro and Mescaline Extractions

Hey this is my first post here, I've lurked around for a month or two and have found this place very intriguing. I'm pretty much a virgin when it comes to the world of psychedelia so I need your guys help.
I'm thinking of trying to get some mescaline out of some variety of cacti and the extraction technique I was leaning towards requires benzene, which I later found out aint to good for you.
So I was wondering can I substitute benzene for a safer chemical, or should I not worry about it?
And if this is some ancient caveman technique and there is a better one please share.
Thanks alot

Pressure cooker is the best method as cooking the liquid on a slow boil for 4-5 hours will stink the entire house out. Dried pedro chips in a pressure cooker, cover with water (distilled if possible) cook for 20 mins at 15lbs pressure. Strain juice off, cover with water again, repeat. Maybe repeat a third time making sure you squeeze all the juice out of the pulp through a strainer. Gently boil down to a drinkable amount (perhaps half a pint)
Before you go through all this it might be worth taking a sip and realising just how horrendous the tea tastes first. I've know lots of people take one sip and stick to mushrooms. There can also be some pretty heavy nausea drinking the tea. Taking it rectally eliminates all nausea.

How about trying a simple alcohol extraction.
All you have to do is soak dry cactus powder in a high concentration alcohol for about 24 hrs, drain and save the alcohol, soak once or twice more saving the alcohol each time, and then evaporate the alcohol off.
It is a simple process that requires only a few days for soaking and then a day or so for evaporation. You should end up with thick tar-like substance that is extremely bitter. The bitterness is from the alkaloids so it is a welcome taste.
As long as you use grain alcohol there are no worries of any contamination being left in the finished product that will harm you.
I generally go with about 50 dry gram/person. 100 grams is a good easily manageable amount to work with each time. The finished product is then split 50/50 between two people.
The taste is bad but a glass of water will wash it away easily.
enjoy

I know we've had this discussion before, but will isopropyl once evap'd leave the oil, or will it leave a useable tar?

Hey, I live in the states, and am over 21 and have looked for grain alcohol or Everclear, and nobody at the local liquoir stores had ever even heard of the stuff.... ::::scratching head:::: So, is there any other solvents for extracting the dry cactus material safetly, or is there a safe way to order it thru the mail....? Or is ordering alcohol thru the mail against the post office rules...?
Perferably, I would like to purchase Everclear for some other extraction experiments I have been curious about.... It just seems safer than the other poisonious solvents, and possible residues....

you can buy it online... if you can't find everclear, it's a grain alcohol, look for grain alcohol.

Got a question about a substance? Erowid might already have your answer! Have questions about the mushroom experience? The Tripper's FAQ may have your answer or someone else might have had your question before. I know up on the top you are seeing great sights, but down at the bottom we, too, should have rights.

Is that 50 grams for pedro or torch? Do the remaining solids taste bland after an alcohol soak? This would indicate a good % extraction.
Has anyone used the tek on nansnook that yields mescaline carbonate? AFOAF started that a while back and hasn't gotten around to finishing it. lol

I like a 50 dry gram peruvian torch dose. You may differ.
The remains generally are off white to slightly greenish yellow when I'm finished. I've never tasted them but I'm reasonably sure that I get most of the goodies out of them.
It's not a perfect extraction for high yields, but it is easy and low risk. Hell, I'd even say no risk other than possible alcohol fires caused by improper heating sources.
