Availability of cultures
Since the Mushroom Spawn Laboratory operates on a cost recovery basis, it is necessary to establish the following fee structure for cultures you request. Should you require transfers of any cultures in our collection we must first receive reimbursement at the rate of
$125/culture in United States funds
Special handling ($25), document preparation ($15), expedited delivery ($30) and shipping and handling (at cost) are additional. This modest charge is intended to cover increasing technical salaries and material costs of glassware, mailing cartons and postage.
Your order for cultures must be accompanied by a draft on a U.S. bank or an International Money Order made payable to The Pennsylvania State University in an amount proportionate to your request. Funds may also be wired to the University; instructions available upon request. VISA and MasterCard are accepted as well.
Warranty: The Pennsylvania State University warrants only the purity of a culture at the time of shipment. There is no actual or implied warranty regarding the performance of a culture.
Direct inquiries to: Ms.Vija Wilkinson Department of Plant Pathology 209 Buckhout Laboratory Penn State University University Park, PA 16802 USA Email: Vija.Wilkinson@psu.edu; Fax: 814-863-7217; Phone: 814-863-2168

But my recommendation is wait for sporeworks.

It is a difficult species to maintain since as a culture it dies under refrigeration. Spore Works is currently having spore prints shipped from its Jamaican facility as noted cryptically by mule in the above post. I am unsure about the price but you can email customer service at Spore Works for that information.

cool pic workman... the volva on those looks so neat!
dont think i'll be able to grow this mushroom as i live in quite the temperate climate, maybe in the hot months outside...
i have a thought for these species that do not like to be refridgerated... its linked to a thread about rehydrating dried mycelium.. perhaps sporeworks will be able to test this theory, i dont see why it wouldnt work and it would allow the same culture to last for years.. though i dont know why the big companies havent done it yet if its that simple...

just for the record, I read yesterday somewhere that the temps 15C-20C act like refrigeraton to VV, and halt mycelial growth. Funny as those are cultivation parameters for most other species... JD

I found 3 sources for volvariella volvacea but the cost was to high, Per a post in this forum went to a Chinese market and picked up big bag of dried paddy straws mushrooms $4.75. Then used pasteurized straw and mixed a hand full of dried paddy straws mushrooms into the straw separately, Made 4 (8 inch wide x 12 inch long 6 inch high) cardboard boxes, 2 boxes grow mushrooms 1 box grow with out to much contamination Good luck
