Hot Daze, City Lights

Everytime it gets really hot out, like all this week will be, they tell residents to conserve energy. While I agree we should be doing this all the time anyway, but really a few residential air conditioners is not what should be targeted at this time. Why not say, shut off all giant neon lights for a day. Think of how much power that would save. Are we going to forget that wal-mart exists if we dont see a giant fucking lit sign in the distance? I don't think so. If every commercial building conserved energy the way residents are always told we'd save a fuck of a lot more, and we could keep our dinky little air conditioners running without causing a problem. No?

Yeah! In Atlanta they have a residential water ban (you can only water at night every other night). But the damn car washes are still open!

In NYC, the financial district is an environmental nightmare. Office buildings with floors fully lit allllll night.

I think we should get "heat days" and no one should have to go to work, that way all the office buildings and stuff could turn off their lights and a/c

Can you tell I wish I wasn't at work?

I agree. Totally. Then there wouldn't be so many commuters polluting the air even more on smog days like today.

I've never heard this mentioned before by anyone, but it just makes sense to me. I think this should be seriously pushed by people to local politians. Big business gets away with enough shit, the least they can do is hit the lights every once in a while. But god forbid we would inconvenience a business with conserving a little energy around here.

How do they crack down on you? I've never observed a ban in my life and yet I've never been disciplined.

They don't crack down, they just ask residents all the time to conserve energy. They have put the water ban in effect in the past but that's about it. Although just recently I know for a fact in Toronto residential areas they have put in the energy meters that watch how much power you use at what point in the day and you pay more for it. You think they have these installed in commercial buildings?
