I have a friend who is a musician. He had never done drugs of any sort and he did not even drink alcohol. He was nineteen and working as a successful session musician when someone put LSD, apparently about 300-500mcgs, in a coke he was drinking. He did not know this. He assumed he was having a psychotic episode. The doctor at the hospital confirmed this since there was no reason to suspect drug involvement. He spent the next 13 years in and out of the hospital with psychotic symptoms. At first he lost the ability to coordinate his hands to play the guitar...in frustration he destroyed a vintage Martin D-28. It took 3 years to relearn this skill. He was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia. When he was 33 he was told that he had been dosed with LSD by a rival musician who was jealous. The guy who did this had killed himself and the others who knew about it came forward to tell my friend what had happened to him. Their fear of this individual had kept them silent for years. When my friend told me this I told him that this knowledge should affect some sort of cure...he had merely been drugged. The symptoms continued. He is now in his 40s and still undergoing treatment. I know very well that if misused in this fashion that entheogens can bring on mental difficulties. My brother's situation is quite different. Up until his accident he had a long, uneventful history of entheogen usage...uninfluenced by me...he is very knowledgeable on the subject. All of that steel in his skull has worked some evil magic on him. When it is stormy outside he says that he can sometimes hear the radio fade in and out. He does not see this as part of his illness....just the fact of having a stainless steel brain case. I find it hard to believe, but I am not in his situation.
