Is it possible to substitute the perlite in the bottom of the terreniums with plain distilled water, complete with a small water heater for humidity, and a sterilized platform to set the cakes on to keep them from getting wet? I dont really care if this way is harder or not, I just want to know if it will work the same, thanks

I bet a search would yield good info about this, but ... standing water at the bottom of the chamber is not ideal. You want perlite, vermiculite, geolite, or any other porous substance to regulate evaporation, water release, and so on. And these substances are resistant to contaminants. Your other alternative is a jar of water and an air stone.

haha... standing water in your setup is more like putting a sign on your front yard that says "Rob me please, i have $150,000 worth of jewelry, 50 grand in cash, and fine art in my house... I will be away all next week, and the back door will be unlocked." in short standing water is a baaaaaaaaad idea.... and no, u can't put h2o2 in it... its too unstable.... especially when heated.
