Nine Inch Nails drops out of MTV awards over Bush image
    #4236402 -

Quote:
The Bush image was to accompany the song "The Hand That Feeds," which obliquely criticizes the Iraq war. It includes the lyrics: "What if this whole crusade's a charade / And behind it all there's a price to be paid / For the blood on which we dine / Justified in the name of the holy and the divine."

MTV said in a statement to its news division that the network was disappointed the industrial rock band would not perform but had been "uncomfortable with their performance being built around a partisan political statement."

trent's the man. MTV awards would totally boost his sales and shit, but he won't do it because he'd have to sacrafise his stage show. that's a real artist if ya ask me

Yeah, gotta respect them for that. I think musicians/actors should just stay out of politics and stick to their jobs...entertaining us!

Awesome!

Thank god he didn't back down like Sabbath.  Last summer, Black Sabbath were opening their shows with "War Pigs" accompanied by big screen images of war.  Some of the images were anti-Bush.  Someone raised a fuss and the images were taken out.

MTV...bah. The lyrics speak the message of the song so clearly it would take an idiot not to put it in context...they should have just let them put the image up behind them during the performance so that more people could have seen that. I'm glad to see Trent sticking to his guns rather than passing up on principles in favor of bucks..

"Apparently, the image of our president is as offensive to MTV as it is to me," Reznor said.

LOL, fucking awsome.

actually, he will probably get more news attention and fame from this alone. Im not sure artistic integrity was to play here, after all any publicity is good publicity. Im willing to bet that this will boost his ratings by the general populous more than being on the awards show would have.

I hope you're right, but I somehow doubt it. MTV won't be talking about it and no one else will be talking about it either, other than on the internet.

Actually, I don't think the images of Bush were offensive in and of themselves. I think they were showing pictures of Bush and then of Hitler. The connection was what people thought were offensive.

Sabbath really pussed out on that one, though.

I don't think it even went as far as that... nor does it need to, I think that would actually weaken it.

Is MTV even still on the air? I gave up watching that channel when I was 13 just because it's single-handily turning my generation into ignorant materialistic morons. Also, they turned MTVX into goddamn mother fucking MTVHot broadcasting nothing but P. Diddy and fucking Britney Spears videos twenty four hours a day... like there aren't enough of those fucking stations on the air, they have to eradicate the one decent music channel on the network. Bunch of cocksucking corporate bitches who lost their edge in the early nineties and now serves as the youth version of Fox News/Fox with it's horrid spineless approach to politics and the endless string of stupid fucking reality shows featuring moronic twenty-something zombies like mannequins who only bitch and moan and fight with each other while wearing and using whatever sponsor this week dressed them in. Fuck MTV.

Fuck MTV, Fuck MTV, Fuck MTV and may it burn in hell with all the other fucked originally decent ideas.

Comparing Bush with Hitler is absurd. No right-minded adult who knows anything about history would make that comparison.

Yeah seriously, Bush isn't coordinated enough to make the hand gestures.
