I've tried to bite my nails in desperate times because I'm a little bit of a perfectionist. But now I just use nailclippers all the time.

My brother has a bad nail bitting problem however. I guess it's more of a compulsive act rather than fun activity.

i used to do it all the time ever since i was little...then laid off them when i began chewing...but still had the occasional chomp when i got nervous...well come to find out i had a wart on both thumbs (the occasional chomps)...well those warts spread to my top lip...which is AWESOME!...moral of the story...if you're gonna chomp on your nails...make sure no warts go a long with the nails...

I do. I'm so used to it that I don't even notice I'm doing it sometimes. I've been trying to stop, but it's hard. Whenever I get really nervous, it seems like I just have to do it. My nails aren't really fucked up from it, though. I know they are kindof different, but it's nothing bad. I think that when it gets to the level where some people only have really small fingernails, that's not cool. I know one guy who chewed on his so much that the skin slowly overtook his nail (almost completely or completely). I also got obsessed with pushing my cuticles back. I dont really know, but I'm guessing that's bad for your nails.

i bite my nails..it's really a terrible thing. i've been biting my nails since i was a kid...i remember my parents trying out that anti biting nail polish and that dind't work.

the only thing that helped me stop biting my nails were getting acrylic nails that were all painted really pretty...but to maintain that costs a lot of money and when they soak your fake nails in acetone to take them off, your real nails are really soft and brittle...

i think the only time i've been able to stop biting my nails was for 1 month last year and blah that didn't work :frown:

I used to bite my toe nails. I didn't stop til I was in high school actually. But I still bite my finger nails. I can't stop. Its an obsessive thing for sure though, cause its not like I enjoy it. Its not even really a nervous thing with me, I just can't stand to see white at the end of my nails, so as soon as its long enough to bite off, I do it. I'd love to hear about someone successfully quitting though, and find out how, cause I'd really like to stop.

I bite mine every day and usually so far down that they hurt. But it doesnt bother me. The only benefit i can imagine is it might help improve your immune system...

Anyone know if animals like monkeys bite thier nails?

I bite my nails, esp when i was a smoker (cigs) and i was at work and couldnt have a break for another 2 hrs.  the smell of nicotine on my fingers smelt fucking yummy i just had to bite !!!!!! LMFAO. :crazy:
