And with that... comes a quality post.

A musical project is underway to bring tons of recorded live Grateful Dead shows directly to anyone that wants it. The music is in mp3 format at 160 kb/s.
It consists of nearly 150 Gigabytes (so far). The project goes through every single live recorded show posted to several different respectable online sources and not only includes live music but also several studio sessions, ear monitor conversations, interviews with band members and other goodies. The music is tagged with accurate show information and is also verified from two different chronoligically accurate databases.

The plan is to do the standard 'blanks and postage' method with a little variation: Instead of sending blank tapes or cd's.. all files will be cloned directly to another hard disk. The minimum size required will be at least 200 Gigs. The files will have READ ONLY permissions and those permissions will be encrypted to prevent alterations to occur. This is done in order to protect the integrity of the music files. Sharing of the files will not be possible with current p2p clients. I will provide the hard disk for the cost of the disk.

This is all the info I will devulge at this point. This project is in it's final stages and near completion.

Sounds cool but you lost me at mp3.

Most aud recordings sound tunneled when compressed to .mp3 for me. If you get a .shn one going let me know. Well, at least when you hear the crowd cheers. All the boards and studio cuts should be great though.

It's great what you're doing but I agree with MasonsChild that mp3s are bad news. I prefer lossless formats like shn or flac. Still it's good you're spreading the tunes, you'll make a lot of people happy.

i'm definitely down for the venture... let me clean a bit hard-disc space, and then i'd love to have 200+ gigs of dead material. shn or flac would be great, but i'll take the conserving space move and accept mp3/ogg/m4a as you've got it!

yes. i forgot to mention, the shows that were recorded badly are discarded from the library. Most of what remains is excellent audience shows from good masters and soundboard recordings.
