I must admit...I'm not (yet) a Dead fan!

Well heres the deal, I got a lotta respect for Jerry...but I just never really listened to any of the music! In fact I couldn't name a single song if you asked me to. The only song I know I've heard is the one where the video has the band playing but they're all skeletons.

So here's my request, to all you faithful deadheads: devirginize me!

Give me some songs to grab, so that I might see the glory so many of you seem to enjoy!  :smile:

Get 4-5 hits of LSD, or 5 grams of mushrooms at a pinch, and listen to disc 3 of 11/11/73 or disc 3 of 9/21/72 (both available at GDLive.com - you just have to download, convert to WAV, and burn). You'll love them forever, as you'll realize their power, depth, and beauty, along with the fact that LSD and the GD go together like peas and carrots.

I doubt I'd love LSD nearly as much if I didn't have GD music to listen to.

Ah..Nice,but As far as a Newbie studio album,I say Shakedown Street.Now thats an album that grabs your attention.
And BTW Trendal that video is Touch of Gray.

The studio albums are great, but to hear the true essance of the grateful dead, you have to hear the live shows. They are absolutley amazing. My favorite is:March 15, 1990 at the Capital Centre, Landover. It was released on a 3 disk set called "Terrapin station" Not to be confused with the studio album terrapin station.

On this show all the intstruments sound huge, and jerry sounds like hes goin crazy on the lyrics, as well as his guitar. Listened to it last friday while trippin on some shrooms. It simply blew my mind.

In my experience some music just sounds like crap when tripping, but the deads music sounds like it was made within tripping. I just cant explain it. Pick up the show, eat sacraments, and fly!

You're not alone!  I like reading alot of their lyrics, but when I listened to a song (only one song, grant you) I didn't really get into it that much.  But it was the same way with Shpongle.  I listened, didn't like it that much, then listened to it while tripping and now I LOVE Shpongle!  So maybe the same thing will happen for me with the Dead.  I think I'm going to try them out while I'm tripping or something here in about a month or so.  :smile:

It's no big deal if you're not a Dead fan. There's plenty of music out there that's just as good.

The Grateful Dead is still putting its own archive out. Besides standard CD releases, the Dead is finalizing a deal with Apple's iTunes to make every live note they've ever recorded available for download.

"Everything, sooner or later, will end up being released on the Web," Weir says. "What we wanna do is digitize our entire catalog, our entire collection of tapes . . . and make that stuff available. I think iTunes is up to that."

I'm downloading the 77/05/25 and I'm really liking it, so far I've downloaded all the songs up untill Peggy-O and I'm really liking this.  I must admit some of their songs sound like long sessions of randomn noise but most of the stuff is good! :gd_icon: :thumbup:
