you're wrong. don't push your false beliefs on other people, mushrooms are not the way to enlightenment. in fact, they are going to cloud your judgments with ideas that have been imprinted into your being. to reach enlightenment you must clear your consciousness, and see the world as it really is.

Enlightenment is just an illusion that peoples minds form. For millenia humans have had this inherent belief that we are not worthy of this world we live in, and that we must "transcend" our current state. It's a load of bullshit.
WE are the ones who evolved higher brain functions. WE are the ones who formed advanced languages, arts, sciences. WE are the ones who can manipulate our environment in ways other animals cannot. WE have survived and will continue to until society decides to shit on itself.
Enlightenment is just an optimistic hope that there is something more out there besides what we have now.

Who says that seeing the world "as it is" is how we see it everyday? People that think mushrooms are the path to enlightenment believe that the life we live day to day is an illusion, or is clouded. And mushrooms push those boundaries away for a while so we can see life as it really is.
Like it matters, you can't prove anyone right or wrong, so why should we discuss this?

I think one thing HELLA is touching on here is that a lot of people on this site talk as if acid and mushrooms would cure the world of all its evils, which IMO (and InHisOpinion), is just as closed-minded a way of thinking as the people who run the system that these "shamans" claim to be fighting against.

Indeed. I know plenty who take acid, mushrooms, and MDMA only for their personal pleasure, and that's their right. NOTHING can MAKE you enlightened.

But supposedly it can help you become enlightened. Which is just to say that it can help you see things in a different way than you currently do. If that helps you in your travels, great. Doesn't mean that you have become "enlightened".
Drugs are (should be) used for personal pleasure, and as tools for bettering your life.

That's pretty much how I feel. Ego loss can come in a million ways that aren't chemical, simply through the act of experience. It's probably just easier to recognize, perceive, and process through a drug experience because you know the source, the cause.

Shamanism is about ecstacy, not enlightenment.
With this in mind, I think ingesting psilocybe mushrooms or LSD is quite an ecstatic experience.
I think mushrooms have made me question a lot of things... mainly reality and such. That may help lead to enlightenment... but other than that, I agree. Mushrooms do not CAUSE enlightenment, 'open peoples mind', make them peaceloving buddhists, or anything like that.
