The book it's based on is fantastic.
I want to adapt books to screenplays, it's something I have a big interest in, and Aronofsky did an impeccable job. He managed to turn a faceless villain in a novel into a faceless villain in a film, which is a hard thing to do. The villain, of course, is addiction.

I Loved the camera work when Marlon Waynes was running from the gangbangers after they busted up Birdie.
And can't forget the creepy old guys yelling "ass to ass"

Yeah, that movie made me feel...bothered in some way. After watching it I felt this sense of... I can't really say. Everyone started out with hope and ideals but before long they were all drowning in their own addictions. Sad and fucked up. And though I like double dildo action just as much as anyone, it made me think about porn and the often drug-laden realities of porn starlet's lives. Disrespect and degradation are not turn-ons. But I though it was a well-made movie. I'd probably recommend it to someone who likes intense movies.

I saw Requiem in the theaters opening weekend. It was november of my senior year of high school I believe. I walked out of the theater and said to my sister that I would never do drugs.
Two weeks later I smoked for the first time.

I watched Pi (1998) last week (also directed by Darren Aronofsky), and highly recommend it to anyone who likes Requiem.

Requiem for a Dream? Pretentious, over-the-top, unrealistic crap. For a movie, it's damn entertaining and well made. However, if you want a more realistic depiction of heroin addiction then check out Trainspotting. Requiem was alright but I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the shit they put in there.

I still hold it as the best directed movie I've ever seen. I also can't believe it didn't even get nominated for best score, much less run away with the award.

That movie was disturbing and I didn't particularly like it very much. Just one asshole's opinion, though.

I agree with mantis. Over the top and unrealistic. The director has no idea what drugs are.
