How many of you guys have seen this movie? Holy shit... its a spectacular movie, but not for the faint of heart. I would reccomend this movie to anyone who would ever consider shooting up heroin, or to anyone who just wants to see a damn good, really realistic movie.
what do you guys think of this movie?

Well beadsman for me that would be the worst thing to watch while tripping, but to each his own right? NapkinofDoom that is awesome that you stopped because of the movie, it does has a very strong messege.

It's very well made, and it can teach some people not to do something and stuff. When i was in my rehab class we had to watch it, unless it made you want to do drugs, which 2 or 3 people didn't watch it cause of that. And as the movie goes on the music gets so much more intense. I would hate tripping during that movie, i am pretty sure i would get a bad trip outta that or atleast not a good on for sure.

The music is creepy as shit! I lost my best friend to heroin so I've already learned my lesson. Louis Fletcher, the mother, was great!

the music in the movie is really what made me enjoy it so much. it was so emotional and totally made me want to go out and do all the drugs i can ... which is contradictory for the movie which had quite an obvious anti-drug message

I knew everyone would agree, the way its directed is amazing huh? Like when they shoot up, its amazing how they show it, with the pupils dialating and everything, amazing.

I thought it was a really good movie, but depressing at the same time. It seems like movies based around hardcore drugs are often pretty depressing (i.e. Blow). The soundtrack is the shit.

I downloaded this movie, watched it, then deleted it, hoping never to have to see it again. Now all my friends have discovered it and they watch it all the time...
its like sitting through a 2 hour War on Drugs commercial.

Yes, except to me I think it is really realistic. I watched it then swore I would never ever watch that thing again. But now I have seen it three times already...the soundtrack is the best. It just sounds so desperate and frantic...*sigh* I love music like that! One of these days, I'm going to trip to the Requiem for a Dream soundtrack.

once, you see the movie and here the music by itself, you totally know what its from and for, and you know the meaning to it kind of...at a phish concert we were playing it really loud and the security asked us to stop playing it cause they knew what it was from and we were like "No." and continued playing it.

I had mixed feelings about the film. Parts of it were good, like the ending, but I had trouble with the character development...
By the way, on heroin the pupils constrict, not dilate. I think that was a "Hollywood" change, as pupil dilation is a non-verbal sign of arousal and interest, and therefor would carry more cinematic effect than pupil constriction...
Speaking of good shit getting ruined by Hollywood, the film "Spun" also has it's moments, and great cinematography and sound editing, but the story was kind of fucked up by the director and producer...
I bring it up because the two movies are compared a lot. I liked Spun better, but it's really a matter of subjective personal choice -- there is no clear right or wrong answer...

I thought that they (the directers) had the drug in the movie ambiguous so that the movie would mainly be about 'addiction' not just heroin, or cocaine or anything. At least, thats what I heard.

If we're talking "Requiem for a Dream," there wasn't much ambiguity about it. the kids were mostly doing heroin, and the mom was doing speed. It's just that they used the same footage over and over again. The director of Spun, as much as I disagree with what he did to the script, at least had much more variety to the drug usage montages -- albeit he was obviously building upon the director of "Requium's" work from the previous year...

It's a movie that was marketed so poorly, than many may not have heard of it, but it has some real good stuff in it, although it could have been much better...
I hear it's out on DVD now. Here's the web-site:

Spectacular: Filling the screen with every single visual trick possible, like a student film about poor people, multiplied by an edge-of-Hollywood budget. Not a single new, interesting thing happening on the screen. Boring, eye-hurting recycling. Chicken Soup for the Soul manipulation. Yes, they will make you feel tingly around your ribs, but there's no art to that and very little skill needed. Requiem for a Dream manipulation. Yes, it will make you feel like the world is bad, but there's no art to that and very little skill needed. It's easy to make people feel bad with brute force fucking-with- them but. . . how about characters that are a bit more than two-dimensional stupidthings? Please stop liking it.
