Poll: Darren Aronofsky's Best Film

My sig makes my pick rather obvious, but it's by no means an easy choice. Which of his films has been your favorite and why?

Probably Requiem. It's a classic even if it is dark and sometimes depressing. I haven't seen Pi yet though, but this poll inspired me to download it. Should be done in an hour or so. That said, I really liked The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke was awesome.

It was between Requiem, Black Swan, and The Wrestler for me. I chose Requiem.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen Pi or Requiem in a while. Because of Pi, I bought a Go board and learned to play! time to watch them again.

keep in mind that this was his first real movie. he funded it from $100 donations from his friends and family. i believe the total budget was only like 60k. most the people that worked on it were friends of his, including the main actor.

Maybe I'll soon have some new people to play Go with, since it looks like lots of folks are watching "Pi" tonight!
edit: Clint Mansell deserves a lot of credit, too. the film scores for Pi, Requiem, and The Fountain were all composed and arranged by him. The music is a totally inseparable part of experiencing these movies. They'd be great anyway, but with Mansell's scores, they are epic.

i'd definitely consider myself the open minded type when it comes to films. but i find darren aronofsky is SO bad. i really hate his style. Pi annoyed the crap outta me. the wrestler tried to bore me to death. i dont even want to see what the black swan hype is about.

good one. imo mr arronofsky is too much of a try-hard. i dont feel like it's genuine what he's doing.

Im not really a fan of his work. It's all bad trip stuff but totally not in a good way. I like dark and twisted dont get me wrong I just think he needs to work on his presentation and agree with the sentiment that i dont feel he is genuine. I feel like he is trying too hard to be avant garde.
Of those mediocre movies (I wouldnt call them terrible movies) but mediocre is a very good word for ALL of his movies I think Pi or the wrestler would be the best. I consider myself a connoisseur of fucked up films but he just doesn't make the cut for me...thenagain I'm not a fan of David Lynch either.
If you want to make something TRULY mind-bending add a few more plot twists...his movies are too predictable.
Now Terry Gilliam on the other hand, HE makes an epic movie and presents them perfectly.

thank your mr. muscaria. i like gilliam's older works very much too.. i read thru the other film director thread (3 years old) and _no one_ mentioned david cronenberg. he made some really great films. i mean videodrome or naked lunch or dead ringers? those easily beat anything arronofsky would ever be capable of doing.

I also like Cronenberg and was going to mention him but opted to mention Gilliam instead. My favorite by him is Existenz.
