I'm suprised they don't show this movie to kids in health class... like the old Refer Madness movies...
Personally I liked the movie so much I bought a copy for my DVD collection. It's a fucked up flick, but its powerful.

Its one of my favorite films but i could never handle it shrooming. And not just the trippy imagery in the direction with the quick shots back and forth but mainly the message that it comes across and i start thinking about whatever it is i'm currently 'addicted' to at the moment. The past couple days since i joined, its been this forum and building my first grow box.
But yeah, the last 10 minutes i think is the most powerful 10 minutes of any movie i can think of.

I think it was probably a "good" film (from a filmmaking point of view) but I personally don't want to languish in depressive, morbid movies like this one. Congratulations to the director in undoubtedly creating the response he wanted to achieve but no thanks I will never watch it again. You might say that the difference between me liking it is say the difference between donnie darko and RFAD, DD had a nicely morbid tone you might say. Plus it happens to have one of the best 80s montage's ever!

Trainspotting deals with some similar territory but is far more "entertaining" and also points out the british life quite well (albeit somewhat heavily stereotyped). I will never tire of Francis Begbie.

hehe, some people talked the movie up on another board and a guy went out, rented it, and watched it with his girlfriend. needless to say, he was not too excited to tell us about it

so, to those of you reading this thread, it is NOT a chick flick that you would want to watch for the first time with your boyfriend/girlfriend

otherwise, i liked it. it breaks away from the normal movie scheme.

I still think that this movie was not propaganda...

Requiem for a Dream is my second favorite movie. The cinematography in this film is beyond brilliant. I would also suggest watching The Rules of Attraction. This is my favorite movie.

Rock and Roll....

after analyizing the disturbing aspects of this movie, i've found some good in it as well:
The mother:
sure shes in a mental hospital, but she gets free food, a free place to stay, her friends can come see her still, whats not to like?
The mothers son:
yeah, he only has one arm, but he most likely kicked the habit, and he can collect govt. money!
The girlfriend:
C'mon, SEX PARTIES!!!! and she gets her fix afterwards!
The black dude:
I think this is the only guy that got totally screwed, i felt bad :frown:

of course, i'm kidding......

I just watched it. I didnt know what it was about really, just that it was supposed to be disturbing. It really goes from an enjoyable story, to hell later. In the beginning there's only the eerie theme that prevents it from seeming like any normal movie. I couldn't stop watching it, but it was really awful. Well done, I appreciated it, but I don't think anyone could truly enjoy it. It's something to see though- like a trainwreck is something to see. I'll not get the theme out of my head today, definitely.

Definately one of my favorites. I love the parallels about addiction throughout the movie. GREAT FILM. I've never watched it tripping though and I'm not sure that I'd ever want to. Some of it being sorta twisted and when I'm tripping I disturb really easy, heh.

I also own this movie and loved it after the first time. I suggest reading the book. It is a bit hard due to the authors way of writing, but it is great too. It is funny because the last chapters are even worse than the movie, and you are looking for even a small glimmer of hope, but you cannot find it, yet cannot put the book down. It was great.

The first time I saw this movie I didn't think ti was disturbing at all. Fastfoward a year or two and I had used heroin and such, it became very scary. Actually the way I would like to describe it is every time I watch it, it seems worse and worse (sad), so in the beginning it was just really trippy, then now its like I realte it to my life, etc. Its a hard movie.

That movie wrecked my day.

I watched it with my gf at the time, I couldn't even get it up after watching that movie. No shit.

Its my favorite movie, I dont see how you talk so much shit about it. Ive watched it over 30 times, probably 10 times tripping, it will definately put you in check, and give you a different perspective on things. The drug is neither heroin, nor cocain. It gives them the effects of heroin, but their eyes get big like they were doing cocain. Its suppossed to represent addiction, drugs in general. I hear spun is almost as good, but a tweaker movie
