Vacation Problem
    #4158640 - 05/10/05 07:48 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I will be going away for a couple of weeks. I have a bunch of ziplock bags fully colonized sitting in my dark closet. Here lies the problem.

Go back in time with me to a month ago. I had 2 bags of fully colonized brf+WBS. I added them to fresh BRF+WBS in a new bag. But I noticed that when I took them out to combine them, they were very dry. This was after 10 days incubating. So the combination was succesfull and I created 4 new bags. I think they were successful because of the added moisture from the freshly added BRF and WBS.

But now these four bags have finally colonized again but when I took a look at them they were getting pretty damn dry. If I wasnt going on vacation I would be creating a casing with 2 of the bags and making fresh brf+wbs again to increase my bags. But since I am going away, I can not do this. But leaving them for another 2 1/2 weeks, I think I will be coming home to crazy dry myc. Is this bad for it? Should I in some way try to add moisture now to the myc, so that it can last through my vacation? Or will it be ok for when I return? Please help I am leaving tomorrow morning.

You might could try injecting sterile water into it.
Or
Stick it in the fridge for when you return.
Or
Do both.

Just a guess.

Good luck

the fridge would slow down growth. excellant idea. i would tend to think injecting it with sterile water would be more risky then simply tossing it in the fridge. would it be ok in the fridge for such a long time?
