putting cakes in fridge
    #1781735 - 08/05/03 03:07 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Ok, here's what I plan on doing

I have 12 jars innoculated and I'm going away for 3 and half weeks, and I don't want the jars to fruit before I get back

I gave someone the jars to take care of untill I get back and was planning on doing this...

Store in dark place untill completely colonized, then leave there for a few more days just to make sure it's fully done

Then put in fridge untill a couple days before I get back from vacation

Then fill jars with water and store in fridge for another 24 hours, then remove and fruit as norma(I'm doing invitro growth if this matters at all)

Will this work, or should I keep them in water the entire time?

And I heard something about keeping the jars in a ziploc bag, shall I do this?

let them colonize, fill jars with water AND put in fridge overnight at same time, no need to make more steps out of this.

take them out and fruit those bitches

Rohita, you missed the point, I want to know if keeping it in water and putting it in fridge for about 2 weeks will be the equivalent of keeping it in for 24 hours?

or should i dunk and cold shock for 24 hours after the initial 2 weeks of just fridge?

oh yea, and what the hell is that a symbol of for the subject? the little yellow bouncing thing with what looks like an ass...

Yeah that'll kill the mycelium putting them in water for that long.

Can I get a validation on this? Leaving colonized cakes in fridge for a week then putting in water last 24 hours will work just fine?

Yea you got it man, putting it into the fridge will just stall any growth and kinda put them into a kind of suspended animation, which I've heard can be done for months, and then dunk for 24 hours. Dunking longer than 36-48 hours and the mycelium will start to drown.

Would the same logic apply to cakes after they have had a flush or two? My cakes are pretty much at 100% and should be ready to fruit in week. Have two weeks to let fruit then gotta leave for a week. Can I pluck off any fruits and put the cakes in the fridge, dunk when I get back and flush again?

I would say yes. The cold temps will stop the fruiting, but you may have to wait a few days for them to start fruiting again.
