hunting in the woods..
    #4153737 - 05/09/05 04:55 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I want to hunt for shrooms in some woods around where i live.. But i dont know really when to go. Do they grow in the day also? Or are they like shit shrooms and grow alot more at earlier morning times after some rain?

Also do they grow in the ground around trees or directly on a tree (dead or alive).

I know most of this will varie on the type of wood lover im looking to find, but im in GA, about 50 miles north east ATL. .... Whats the most common wood shroom in these parts?

If your looking for ones that make you trip, stick to the pastures if your in the south east. The only thing that I could think of growing in the woods would be Gynopolis spec. or possible Pan subbs.

Of course by Gynopolis he means Gymnopilus, which may I add is a very bitter mushroom, low in potency, and very few have the know-how to ID this shroom. As first stated, stick to the fields man.

ok, thanks alot, and my family owns like 300 acres of pasture with beef cows, and we feed them grain. Ive went shroom hunting a few times and have came home empty handed. ive seen my grandfather hier a truck to come out and fertilize the field. yet when i was little i recalled seeing little mushrooms grow near the fences. Will the fertilizer have anything to do with it?

stoneryguy- you're not going to find pan subbs in the woods unless someone put a pile of straw/grass clippings back there (there was a photo of this on the shroomery last year).
shroomer88- if you're in N. Georgia you may be just about ready to pick some weilii- a very unique psilocybe found only in n. Georgia. There is a lot of information on them here from people like Lizardking for you to peruse.
