My terrarium is not see through, is this alright?
    #4142936 - 05/06/05 05:21 PM (11 years, 7 months ago)

Just another dumb question, but just wasnt sure. My terrarium is a rubbermaid container which is not see through. I open it once or twice a day to air it out and let them get a little light. They probably get about 20 minutes of light each day, is this enough?

put a clear lid on it and give them 12/12 , is the lid white? They need more sun than 20 mins i would think.

What I did was cut a portion out of the top of my container (about 3 or 4 inches by 3 or four inches) and taped saran wrap over the opening to keep the air out of it and let light in. It works fine for me.

What dead maker said is a good idea , you should do it , because i think light increases pinning , and tells them which way to go.

Where I am keeping the terrarium it does not get light even if the lid was clear... I have to move it in order for it to get light. I know the type of light really doesnt matter all that much, so if i kept a lamp near them with a clear lid and had it on a 12/12 timer, would this work alright?

sure it would work, but from my understanding a light with more blue spectrum such as a grow bulb (florescent) works much better.

you dont need any special kind of light. when i grew i used the light in my walk in closet as the only light source. it was a 60 watt incandescent.

to oxemoron, look a page or 3 back in this forum. look for something that says something about ASCII drawing, in that post someone has a picture of rubbermaids with a whole cut in it and something clear on top.
