Winamp problem
    #4129701 - 05/03/05 10:42 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Sometime today winamp lost it's sound. All the songs play through, but I don't hear anything. My sound does work because I get it with everything else.. I re-installed winamp and still no sound..

any ideas?

Volume is probably all the way down in winamp, just find the volume control and jack it up, for some reason it likes to set the volume to 0 a lot.

Check the settings for your output plugins.

WinAmp uses an assortment of DLLs to handle this. If you either deleted the entry in the WinAmp settings or clobbered one of the parameters, it would make the sound stop working. If you somehow deleted the relevant DLL at the filesystem level, it would cause the same problem.

If nothing helps, try uninstalling, then manually delete the WinAmp install directory, then clean all WinAmp entries from the registry (you'll probably need to use a registry management utility to do this), then reinstall. Uninstalling alone usually leaves all sorts of pollution around in the filesystem and registry which might get picked up again on reinstall along with your no-sound problem, hence my suggestions.

Good luck!

How do I check my settings for output plugins?

winamp preferences > plugins > output

does other sound play (like in other media players)?

Go to Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > Device Volume (under Volume tab) > Advanced. Check if any of the levels are muted or lower than they should be.
