Okay, here are my experiences.

When I don't take the effexor I get angry easily, sort of manic and depressive, very emotional. I get "head shocks," which are extremely unpleasant and sort of knock me off balance; it feels like something is literally shocking in my head. It's almost like watching somebody get shocked by something, only feeling the shock inside your head. Very unpleasant.

However, while I'm on effexor I feel like I can somewhat concentrate. I have a little bit more energy than normal, and I am certainly a lot friendlier. I still feel depressed but it is sort of at arm's length; I know it is there, I can see it, I can feel it, but it isn't affecting me at that moment. It is easier to control.

It helps to mute the extra voices, the ones that you know aren't supposed to be there but are there anyway. They go a lot quieter, and I think that is what helps me to concentrate; it is hard to focus when you've got "people" yammering inside your head on a zillion different topics.

The main side effects seem to be sexual; I'm definitely not the always-in-the-mood gal I used to be (of course, that could also have something to do with nearly 3 years of marriage, as well =) and it takes a lot longer for me to get aroused (mentally and physically) while at the same time making it much easier to lose that arousal (and having an orgasm is a lot tougher, too).

Even with the side effects and the unfortunateness that happens when I miss a dose, I "love" my effexor. Everyone around me can tell a difference, I can tell a difference, and I feel better. It also doesn't seem to affect any sort of drug usage; whatever I happen to use reacts just fine.

Hope some of this helped =)
