is abilify a glutamate blocker?
    #21885416 - 07/01/15 10:21 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

in a previous thread in this forum, someone said: "interestingly, abilify is a glutamate blocker. glutamic acid...nasty stuff. MSG is the worst offender". now, I don't know much about this but it would seem that a "glutamate" and a "glutamate blocker" should be opposite things. wiki says: "the carboxylate anions and salts of glutamic acid are known as glutamates". anyone care to shed light on this?

Can I just ask why you are interested to know? I am on Abilify depot, 400mg a month.

I am weaning off abilify. since posting I have deduced that abilify is indeed a glutamate blocker. I am saying this because I read the European journal of pharmacology article- summary of "aripiprazole protects cortical neurons from glutamate toxicity". I also read somewhere that glutamate is a neurotransmitter and has to be present in the right concentrations in the right places at the right time. both too much and too little glutamate is harmful. this implies that glutamate is both essential and highly toxic at the same time. now, at first I was concentrating on what the poster was saying that abilify is a glutamate- and thought I should take curcumin supplements to help out w/ a possible toxic level of glutamate in my brain, but then found out that is not true about abilify.
