Schizophrenia, antipsychotic medication (Abilify) & Spiritual emergence

Hi all,
Late april this year, a friend of mine was diagnosed a schizophrenic. He has been forcefully injected monthly, for the last two, with a vile man-made toxin, 400mg of abilify. Psychiatric medication has always been his deepest fear. Doing him no good, has developed mild akathisia, lost ability to feel and experience positive emotions. Overall feeling like a drugged up zombie with lowered IQ and loss of connection to spirituality. Is stuck on the monthly injections for the next 6 months.
Leading up to hospitalization he felt embodied by the divine, experienced bliss and joy, connected with the universe as a whole, loving & happy, guided by otherworldly positive voices. This has all faded leaving him lifeless and unhappy. Best 2 months of his life. Not a drug induced state, but did take LSD once & smoked cannabis mostly daily.
Was just wondering if anyone has any advice on what he can do to stay healthy/keep sanity/spirituality whilst stuck on these drugs - he is doing his best to get off the meds, mentioned he is depressed from loss of spiritual connection (feels as if the pineal gland has been attacked, chakras weakened from the meds). Will he be able to feel deeply, have positive emotions, intuition, etc again?
Would appreciate any information about abilify/a-typical antipsychotics, or stories from people who have been through similar. Thanks for reading, peace

I don't know your situation on what's holding you back from walking away from the program, but Wiki tells me that symptoms could increase for a while if you took that route, including a possible aggravation of the symptoms by the use of Abilify
If the best two months of your life occurred prior to the program then why continue with it?

I had a psychotic break and abilify was one of the medications that i took before i finally found the right one for me. It gave me akathisia and it was really unpleasant, and i wasn't properly medicated from it. I don't know why your friend is being forcefully injected, but my guess is that he has brought this upon himself due to uncooperative behavior with medication. My advice is to try a new med as soon as possible. Tell him to see a psychiatrist and to try different medications at different doses until he finds one that will work for him. Living a psychotic unmedicated lifestyle isn't a good thing. There's nothing wrong with taking medications if you need them, and if you are psychotic you do in fact need them. You can still find joy in a sober life, and if you are psychotic you aren't actually sober, as you have Dopamine flooding through your brain due to it malfunctioning. Prolonged psychosis can actually cause brain damage. Take it from me, once you finally find the right medication and your mood and thought processes balance out again life goes back to normal and you can live a fulfilling life, and connect with other people. I wish your friend a speedy recovery.

Why was he put on medication in the first place if his symptoms were positive and not effecting his life?

The psychiatrists are generally friendly people trying to do the right thing.
Abilify hardly does anything I've come around to realise - when I was 'benefiting' from it, it was something else causing a slow return to normalcy. It doesn't even combat the core symptoms well and most psychiatrists I've seen don't recommend it.
You don't have much to worry about.
Just have you friend display the ability to function - get a job, have relationships and show at least some interest in society. If he can do that they'll take him off.

he's on a 6 month community treatment order in NSW, Australia. has always complied with medications, other psychiatrists don't believe he has a mental illness. victim of their system.
great advice circastes, will make sure he takes it on board.
hopes he is able to trip again someday, the abilify has definitely had an affect on his ability to trip
