I also donate my time to volunteering for a nursing home and hospital, cleaning up parks and forests, delivering meals to the poor, and countless other things I will not list. What do YOU do?

You do realize that his net worth is not just money he has laying around. A lot of it is in investments and his company. He is in no position to give almost all of it away.

I think we should commend those with a lot of money who are philanthropists, and get on the asses of those who don't give to charity.

Ok, if this is going to turn into a competition of charity:

In the past year I have worked in a nursing home, worked a soup kitched, helped organize a toys for tots charity event, and every weekend I go buy a bunch of burgers from McD's and walk around my city (Frand Rapids) at night handing them out to the homeless people I find.

The first sentence was sarcastic, and I don't think Bill Gates would disagree with the latter (unless at a hearing :smirk:). I admit I could be wrong though, I'm not in his shoes.

Where does anyone do that? I've said, and I think that Tao has as well although I don't want to put words in his mouth, that their probably is some degee of self importance and a positive feeling that he gets from doing this. Is that the cause, of course not. You seem to be the only person ignorant enough to want to make this a 100% one way or the other issue. Do YOU believe that he is donating all of this money for 100% hedonistic, self gratifying purposes?

Since he didn't donate such giant amounts of cash until he WAS sucessful, how can you say that that was part of his methodology to become sucessful?

The way Bill Gates got so rich can be seen as being a bit shady, depending on your perspective. Of course, that has nothing whatsoever to do with his generous contributions to charity.

something that pisses me off is everything that god has created, its illegal. just about every drug is illegal. and the things man made are legal. alcohol, DXM, just stuff made from other things. I personally think that god gave us these things for a reason. everytime i take a nature hallucenogic, i think deeply about heaven, hell, nature and that stuff. things made in nature should be legal. man made stuff is more lethal, and ridiculous.

Didn't. He's a very smart and inventive man IMO, that is why he was initially a success.
