Ishmael
    #4123265 - 05/02/05 02:22 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Holy Crap!
This book is incredible.
I just started reading it last night and i'm already half-way done.
If you enjoyed the book "Island" by Aldous Huxley, you will love this one for sure.
It's like a socio-political novel, basically.
Specifically it discusses the bigger picture of life on this planet.  Civilization vs. Nomadism.

READ IT GODDAMNIT  :tongue2:

OK, okaaaaaaaay, I'll read it.

But,

I'm not big on fiction. Does it have the "air" of non-fiction to it? I can't read those damned bestseller authors cuz the plots are never real or so out there that......................................it loses me.

Sweet, i'll look into that insect book.
It's more than the title implies i'll bet... right?

As long as i've got this (for the most part) useless post going, let's turn it into a socio-political novel thread.
Suggest novels with that have overtones of political/sociological messages.

:stoned:

No man. It's basically two people in an office having conversations.
They refer to real shit. Historical, biological, etc. It's totally relevent.

Did i mention one of them is a talking gorilla?

EDIT:  A Smart fucking gorilla, that is.  His character reads just like any normal human.  Except he weighs half a ton, and chews on sticks.

Man there is an ishmael cult at my campus. They go around trying to get people to read ishmael. It's creepy. I stay away from that book in case I could end up a cult person.

Yah, this happened at my high school when people discovered it there. It sucked. The book is decent as long as you can look at it objectively and not get swept up in its ideas. It's got some good info.... but it's not all backed up by science. They make a lot of statements in it that you're expected to jsut accept. A lot of people read it and decided they were better people because of it and went around talking down to people who hadnt read it like "you havent read ishmael? you dont know shit, buddy"

and that pissed me off

These guys set up a table with other books you could borry and sell back, and then when you went to look at them to see a different book, they tried to spring Ishmael on you.
