i have read plato for four semesters and have yet to read meno or phaedo. i have five dialogs on my shelf.

i studied republic this past semester. imo it's much more advanced than the dialogs, but it was written much later so that makes sense. really amazing stuff. so much stuff comes from republic that informs our society that most people don't even know. one thing that's stuck with me that i learned is the analogy for sight as learning i.e. "i see what you mean". that's straight from republic. not a huge deal in regard to the way plato's ideas have shaped society, but still, interesting little factoid.

I dig history book, especially the ancient Rome era.

Suetone, Tacite, Tite-live, Plutarque but also modern historian who write on the subject

also machiavelli, I have a nice book about the history of cryptology and some book about local history

kristina borjesson's blacklist was also good, a bit on the conspiracy side, great read.

edit: and yeah it's all and only for my own pleasure

Everything is fiction. His-story. There are just varying degrees of accuracy in that fiction.

Dune brought the feudal court system to life better than any his story book I've read.

Foundation and Empire introduced the concept of psychohistory.

The fictionalised account of Balista in Harry Sidebottom's books bring a level of detail of the culture and technology of 4th century eastern Roman life.

Information is my entertainment, and often, I find more truth in fiction than I do in authorised his-story books.
