Midnight on Sunday
    #4093442 -

always seems to me to be the loneliest time of the week. Everyone where I am at is asleep already. The anticipation of the Monday morning activity makes it seem even more isolated. Even if I wanted to I would have to drive over 50 miles to find activity on a Sunday night. I used to work a third shift job...even then on Sunday, at work, around midnight it seemed the most quiet and lonely. It is a loneliness that is so accute that it is worth savoring. I have always thrived off of isolation. My whole life I was most at peace when absolutely isolated. An endearing loneliness sets in after a while and settles into an internal quiet that cannot be described. It is a sad feeling, but a good one as well. As a child I found myself isolated most of the time, due to various circumstances, and I came to really appreciate my own company. Now, it is only occasionally that I experience this, and I really appreciate it. Anyone else like being alone to the point that one's emotional state is impacted?

Yeah, As a child I had to rely on myself as my family life was so dysfunctional. Being alone was the only stress/anxiety relief I knew.

In my 30s, and 40s, I spent a lot of time alone in the High Desert after taking survival courses. Those were some of the best and most lonely times of my life.

I really think I know what you're talking about. :mushroom2:

Once, while in The Army we were in the field (1983 in Hawaii on the North Shore of Oahu in the Kahukus) on a 10 day field exercise. I had been woke up at 1:30AM to pull guard duty for 2 hours. We had a machine gun up on top of a 40 ft golf ball shape radar dish enclosure. The night was so clear it sparkled. I dropped 5 hits of strong blotter acid. I served my 2 hours of guard duty, but instead of waking my relief I just stayed up there enjoying the night and feeling alone. The next morning everyone really appreciated the extra sleep I let them get. It is one of the defining times of my life. I will never forget that night.

what if you would have had to shoot someone and watch their blood and guts spray everywhere, wouldn't that have fucked up your visuals?

No. All of the red splatter might have been peaceful. I imagine that blowing someone away in a righteous manner might have been another type of defining experience. Anyhow I only had blanks in my machine gun...they wouldn't give me real bullets...it was an exercise.

I used to carry a little transister radio with me. I would be on top of this one desert mountain and be able to pick up stations from Canada to Mexico. It felt so strange. I felt like an alien scout checking in on a lost world. There was a little hippy town down below called Susanville. They played oldies acid rock on sunday night. Innagoddadavida (spelling?) I remember how happy I would feel listening to that and Hendrix ect. all alone at 9,800 ft. :mushroom2:

yeah I'd prolly flip out if I had to kill someone on acid in the name of a country that made LSD illegal.

I tend to be a little over introspective, but like to, and purposely isolate myself;but as far as an emotional state being affected, I don't think so... I tend to dissociate a lot from emotions, and at times be overly rational, to the extent that sometimes I'm percieved as having Asperger's syndrome.

"could you imagine lighting off a few of

Before the Army got all anal about drugs (1984 - good year for that), I went to the M60 machine gun range completely fried (hey, they made us do it on Saturday and I didn't want to waste my weekend). I got an expert qualification. In late 84 they started getting all authoritarian about tripping and getting stoned. It really ruined the mood.
