Hydrogen Peroxide wet spot treatment: NEW IDEA!!
    #4073140 - 04/19/05 04:44 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

Hi guys, This is my first post here at the shroomery, but I have ben reading A TON on here. I started my jars about 2 weeks ago, they were going good, then i noticed they all had wet spot contam. I threw two of them out because they were really bad. I birthed 5 cakes today, they all have a small amount of wet spot on them. But I have an idea. I am dunking them in the refrigerator with a strong solution of water and Hydrogen Peroxide. I noticed already that it is bubbling and obviously killing bacteria. Ive read many sites online from .gov places that state that hydrogen peroxide is very effective at killing Bacillus. So I want to know if i soak it in the HP if it will be safe to eat once they fruit. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!! Sorry if there are any spelling errors.

or you could dunk your cakes in chlorine. prob with those wet spots? stick a m-80 in the spot and blow it out.

h202 on cakes = bad idea. your cakes are F'd, chuck em. under no conditions should your cakes be contamed at any time in thier life.

Contaminated cakes are junk dude. i know it's unfortunate but you gotta chuck 'em. i've read teks where you put the peroxide in before you pressure cook and the h2o2 breaks down into water.

Don't be so quick to toss them like everyone is saying. I've managed to salvage a few contamed cakes with surgery. They ended up just fine, and produced some nice healthy mushies. Of course, you only want to try this if you only have a little bit of contam. If half your cake is crap then toss it.

Go ahead and leave em in there - see what happenes.

Well, He soaked them in it for about 24 hours, put them in the terrarium, and they are starting to grow new healthy mycelium. They are looking good. He thinks your right Hippie. The cakes are looking very healthy indeed. Even the part where he broke some cakes up and just cased them, they are growing very white healthy looking mycelium. The wet spot was only on the bottoms of the cakes, and besides soaking them in the H202 He cut the parts that did have infection off.

Thanks everyone. feel free to post more if you'd like =)

Awesome! Hopefully you'll get a full healthy cake. I bet you will.

One thing to keep in mind though is to make sure your mushrooms (when eventually picked) don't have a salty taste. There have been claims of supposedly recovered cakes producing bad mushrooms that taste salty, and can make you sick.

Good luck =0)
Peace

Well, here's the story, after my Friend soaked them, he put them in his terrarium. They fruited, made nice big mushrooms, and they are still going strong. He ate some, and was fine. So I guess this proves you can save your cakes from some contamination's. I know for a fact that it was Wet spot contam, some of the jars got it really bad and my Friend said they stank like dead bodies. And whoever said h202 in cake = bad idea, your a moron.
